A unique Italian heirloom variety of zucchini known for its unusual, long, and curved snake shape. Unlike most zucchini, Tromboncino can grow up to 3 feet long, though it is usually harvested when it is about 12-18 inches long for the best flavor. Its skin is a light green that matures to a pale yellow, and its flesh is tender and firm, with a sweet, mild flavor.
One of Tromboncino's key advantages is its versatility. When harvested young, it is used as a summer squash, perfect for grilling, sautéing, or spiralizing into noodles. If left to mature, it hardens and can be used as a winter squash, similar to butternut squash, with a richer, nuttier taste. This dual use makes it a popular choice for gardeners looking for both summer and winter squash in one plant.
It can be trained to grow vertically on trellises, saving valuable garden space and making it easier to harvest. The plant is vigorous and resistant to common squash pests like the squash vine borer, which often troubles other zucchini varieties.
