The most interesting looking vegetable. Pale green skin and white flesh with a distinctive flavour. With a texture like water chestnut and a turnip like taste. Can be roasted, fried  or used raw in salads. A good source of iron, manganese and folic acid.

 

When to Sow: Mar - Jun

 

HOW TO SOW:
Sow indoors  - In pots or moudules of moist well drained compost and cover with 1-2cm of soil . Ideal Temp 13°C. Think to one seedling per module when large enough to handle and grow on until plants are robust enough to withstand pests. Harden off before planting out to final positions 15cm appart.


Sow direct - into a prepared seed bed. Thin to 15cm.


Sow in succesion for a longer cropping period.
