A medium to large red onion with a id flavour, decorateve when sliced. Antibacterial and Antiseptic properties, due to beneficial sulphur compounds. A good source of antioxidants, such as quercetin and anthocyanin. Also high in Vitamin C, Calcium and Iron.

 

When to Sow: Feb - Apr

 

HOW TO SOW:

Dig over the bed in autumn to prepare the soil adding lots of organic matter. Sow in pots - Into most compost and cover with 1cm of soil. Ideal temp 10-15 °C. Transfer into final posotions when large enough to handle 10cm apart.

Sow Direct - Into a prepared seed bed in shallow drills covering with 1cm of soil. Thin to 10cm when when large enough to handle. Do not grow in ground which has been recently manured.

  • Harvest: Pull a couple of weeks after the leaves have started to turn yellow. Pick by using a fork to loosen the root. Harvest on a dry sunny day, pull and leave on the surface of the soil for few days to dry out
