When to Sow: Apr - Jun
HOW TO SOW:
Runer beans are hungry plants so the ground should be well prepared with manure in the autumn before planting.
April - Sow in pots - Sow 3-4 seeds per 10cm pot filled with damp compost. Cover with 5cm of soil. Ideal temp 16-20C. Grow on in cooler conditions until all risk of frost has passed, then harden off before transplating out into final cropping location.
May Onwards - Sow direct after risk of frost has passed and soil is warmed - into drills or a circle (for a wigwam) 5cm deep in a prepared seed bed to 20cm spacing.
For the best crops space canes 30cm appart and plant 3 beans per cane.
